Love Equals (Promo)

Watch the Love Equals Promo video!

LIFE without a doubt IS HARD. It’s hard when you’re trying to figure out what your next steps are (let alone who YOU are). It’s even harder when every week (every day) there’s another tragedy happening in our world and especially in our own neighborhoods. I don’t know about you, but the constant headlines and constant hashtags and constant breaking news is TIRING. And it makes me lose my breath if I think about it too much – but at least I have clean air to breathe. It makes me want to keep scrolling down the newsfeed – but at least I have my electronics and electricity. It makes me want to write my troubles away – but at least I am able to write and form ideas with confidence. Not everyone has these privileges.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I can do and what I actually do (I’ve also been thinking a lot about what OTHERS with power can do versus what they actually do…) and I’ve had this itch to do more. Over the last year, I’ve grown as an independent young adult in many ways and I know I’m capable to support others’ growth and regrowth.

As a result, I’ve teamed up with super thoughtful mindfulness master Serena Wong to do more! Starting next week, we will be kicking off our donation initiative #LoveEquals, where we will give to and raise awareness of various causes that are dear to us. #LoveEquals is our way of showing love and sharing the love with our communities. This life IS hard, no doubt – but there ARE lil things we can do to make it a lil bit better. ^_^

Watch out over the next couple of days and weeks ahead as we share more information! And please – join in, ask questions, and spread the love. 🧡

Some Things I Am Thankful For This Thanksgiving

  1. Cookies and other baked goods
  2. Hugs
  3. Water. Clean water.
  4. My dogs
  5. My voice
  6. Everyone who stops to listen
  7. A warm home to protect me from the cold
  8. A job I really enjoy, working with cool co-workers
  9. Lotion and soap and make-up that help me feel good about myself
  10. Green tea

Even though Thanksgiving is this week and December soon follows, I still can’t seem to shake the feeling that summer was just last week. I still think about summer like it just happened, but in reality, it was three months ago. Three months have gone by, Fall is passing by, and yet I still hold on to Summer.

It’s kind of wistful. Or wishful. Or foolish. Or perhaps merely symbolic of my life as a fictional victorian novel. Whatever way you look at it… I’m still floating around in that Summer place. I think it’s probably denial; me denying myself that my life is actually moving forward after five months of sulking.

I’m not actually sulking, but it’s a kind of strange feeling. Transition. (Humans hate change and they love control. But they love the change that they can control. Sometimes you have that power and sometimes you don’t.)

In this time of transition for adults in their early-twenties and transition for our country, be thankful for what you do have! Think about what you do best (walking your dog, making rice, splurging on yourself) and try to apply that to those who don’t have half as much. Just think about it.

Post-Forum Thought

(*I originally posted this on my personal Facebook in hopes of reaching my peers.)

Hi, me again with another post-forum post:

It’s awesome (AWESOME) that the SCU administration has engaged in the dialogue Unity 4 started last spring. It’s awesome how much they have listened and how much thought they have put into this student effort. (Note, I’m not saying that I’m necessarily happy or content with the progress or responses.)

HOWEVER, I’d just like to reiterate that as students of Santa Clara University and citizens of the world, it is also OUR responsibility to engage in the dialogue too. Not enough students showed up to the forum and not enough students SHOW UP, period. We all have to care about creating an inclusive environment. We all must have compassion, competence, and conscience (ring a bell?)–not just the students who are affected by racial injustice and not just the students who are “required” to go.

I’m not saying that you have to attend every single forum or every single discussion, I’m just saying you need to care. And sometimes showing up for your fellow classmates is one way to show it.

The entire country needs to see SELMA

I can’t believe that that was our country 50 years ago. I can’t believe innocent people were beat to the ground and murdered for fighting for their right to vote. I can’t believe it took that long.

I can’t believe we’re still struggling.

It’s so disheartening to hear about all the victims of police brutality just in the last year. It’s sickening to think about the hate and violence during the civil rights movement. I can’t wrap my head around it.

That people can hate other people just because of the color of their skin.

Isn’t that just ridiculous. We’re all human. We all live on this earth.

But, I guess it’s not really living if some of us are just trying to survive.

I know it’s a touchy subject and I know it’s hard. But I wish people cared more. I wish more people cared. I wish because everyone needs to know this history, now more than ever.
