Zines (pronounced “zeens”) are DIY booklets that can be created by anyone and be about anything! In a society that centers capitalism and the mainstream, zines are meant to be a way for underrepresented and marginalized voices to be heard.
My zine workshop “Zines for Self-Expression, Social Justice, and Mental Health” empowers participants to tap into their artistic sides and learn how mini zines can be a powerful tool for storytelling. I walk through the history of zines in activism and share accessible art prompts to unlock creativity and reflect on wellness practices.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Make a mini zine
- Learn how mini zines can be a tool for advocacy
- Learn how to use art and writing to express yourself and your values
This workshop is perfect for the classroom, workplace, or community gatherings. I have worked with the College Success Collaborative Conference, Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits, South Bay Community Land Trust, LEAD Filipino, and others to present zine workshops tailored for their communities.
